Rydal Mount, in the heart of the English Lake District, lies between Ambleside and Grasmere and commands glorious views of Windermere, Rydal Water and the surrounding fells. This was William Wordsworth’s best-loved family home for the greater part of his life, from 1813 to his death in 1850 at the age of 80.

The house, which was a focus for romantic literature, continues to be owned by the Wordsworth family and retains the feel of a lived-in family home.

Wordsworth was a keen landscape gardener, and the 5-acre garden remains very much as he designed it. It consists of fell-side terraces, rock pools and an ancient mound.

The House

How does this work?…

While the indoor space is calm and warm, the gardens can be your perfect setting too.

Tents - The Mound (beautiful spot in the garden) can hold a tipi hat or marquee for 80 guests and we have pop-up tents for the bar and caterers to use. The addition of a tent (we can recommend the best tent suppliers in the area to help) could be approx £4,000. Something to bear in mind.

Catering - Suppliers are welcome to use the Tea Room building and access to help service your event. We can recommend the best local businesses and show them to lay of the land. You just need to decide on the style menu you would like and budget then we can try and match to the best business.

Bar - We have the space, power and tent for them and can even share the best people to help. This could be a full pay bar or just service for your own provisions.

Accommodation - Because of the wonderful location of this venue, we have an array of accommodation to choose from.

Rydal Mount - We have the space in Wordsworth's room for morning prep and a four poster for the wedding night. We can arrange a breakfast or brunch hamper containing local goodies too!

Rydal Lodge - Down the hill you'll find this wonderful B&B that can host 21 guests. They have wonderful gardens for the pre-wedding gathering and are just a few minutes walk away. Add on this exclusively for your event and relax (£2716 for two nights and breakfasts for 21 guests, great offer!)

Rydal Hall - With rooms, camping and self catering cottages, this place has plenty to offer for over 60 people. We can even provide a 10% discount for the hotel rooms and each of their guests get free parking on their site.
